Missouri Basketball Player Arrested Twice In The Same Day

Zach Price has been indefinitely suspended from the University of Missouri basketball team after he was arrested twice in the same day on suspicion of assaulting his roommate and another person, according to the Kansas City Star.

From the Kansas City Star:

Price, 20, was arrested the first time at 2:31 a.m. about one hour after an incident in the area of Stadium Boulevard. He allegedly was involved in an altercation with his roommate, a 23-year-old male, and a 23-year-old female, according to Columbia Police Sgt. Joe Bernhard. Price was booked in the Boone County Jail on suspicion of third-degree domestic assault and third-degree assault at that time and was released on $1,500 bond.

He was arrested and booked again later Thursday in the Boone County Jail on suspicion of second-degree domestic assault and second-degree assault for allegedly ramming his vehicle into a car that held the roommate and the same woman on Wednesday afternoon.

Price was released the second time shortly after 7:30 p.m. on $9,000 bond. Boone County prosecutors still were determining whether to file charges for the first arrest when Price was arrested again.

“We’re very disappointed in his actions,” Missouri coach Frank Haith said Thursday afternoon about Price. “We’re still gathering information — been up all night and we’re still working toward finding out what all went on. I can tell that you we’re not real happy and we will discipline accordingly.”

Hopefully this guy gets the help he needs and he doesn’t get in any more trouble.

According to a story in the New York Times by John Branch, former Missouri defensive lineman has announced that he is gay.

Coaches at the University of Missouri divided players into small groups at a preseason football practice last year for a team-building exercise. One by one, players were asked to talk about themselves — where they grew up, why they chose Missouri and what others might not know about them.

As Michael Sam, a defensive lineman, began to speak, he balled up a piece of paper in his hands. “I’m gay,” he said. With that, Mr. Sam set himself on a path to become the first publicly gay player in the National Football League.

“I looked in their eyes, and they just started shaking their heads — like, finally, he came out,” Mr. Sam said Sunday in an interview with The New York Times, the first time he had spoken publicly about his sexual orientation.

Although it should not be seen as such a big deal, it really is. If drafted, Sam will be set to become the first openly gay NFL player.

Some have already come out to support Sam and his decision to let the world know his truth, but others are not to thrilled. Former NFL player Patrick Crayton has said that Sam should’ve stayed in the closet.

He later kept going on with his reasoning.

Whether you are in favor, or against what Sam decided to do, it was a monumental thing that will most likely change the NFL forever.

Jason Collins, announced that he was gay a few months back, but he was at the end of his career, so we don’t know what would have happened if he was signed by a team. Michael Sam is only 24, and he has the skills to make it at the pro level even if he is projected to be a mid-round draft pick.

This is uncharted territory and there will be some backlash because that is the society we live in today but it should not be about that. It should be about a man brave enough in today’s world to come out.
